Description
This is a Ge'ez (Classical Ethiopic) manuscript of the Book of Enoch (Mets'hafe Henok, መጽሐፈ ሄኖክ), also known as 1 Enoch — canonical scripture of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and part of the 81-book Ethiopic biblical canon.
The Book of Enoch survives in its complete form only in Ge'ez. Aramaic and Greek originals are lost except for fragments found among the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran and in a few Greek manuscripts. The Ge'ez tradition is therefore the sole complete witness to the text.
The text is written in the Ge'ez (Ethiopic) Fidel script. As a manuscript, it preserves the scribal tradition of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, in which the book has been copied and read for centuries.
